Description

The Series of 1923 legal tender features the portrait of George Washington at center. The small scalloped Treasury seal is printed in red at right imprinted with the obligation. A large "1" with "DOLLAR" is printed in red at right. The reverse has the denomination and embellishments at center surrounded by an open field inside the border. The Treasury believed the open field made it easier to detect counterfeits.
